Christmas gift trends in 2024

Finding new Christmas gifts each year isn’t always easy - there’s only so many pairs of socks you can buy! But there are four trending themes for Christmas shopping in 2024: sustainability, nostalgia, well-being and quirkiness.

We’ve dug a little deeper into each of them, so hopefully you can use it as a source of inspiration for an original, on-trend gift.

Sustainable gifts

It’s always worth remembering the wider impact of your shopping, so that you can spread the festive cheer without harming the environment.

Gifts made from eco-friendly materials, such as bamboo or recycled plastics, are one way of staying mindful this Christmas. Locally sourced or handmade goodies are another way of doing your bit - as well as showing the recipient you put time and effort into getting the right gift.

Whether it’s practical or not-so-practical gifts you’re looking for, there’s always a way to make it that bit more ethical.

Nostalgic gifts

If ever there’s a time to get nostalgic, it’s Christmas. Why not give your loved ones a trip down memory lane? Whether it’s retro gifts that bring them straight back to the 80s or something more sentimental, like an old photograph, it’s a great way of giving a memorable gift without breaking the bank.

As our 2024 gift-giving survey* found, it really is the thought that counts. And there’s nothing more thoughtful than giving a gift that brings back memories of a specific time, place or person - they’re usually the ones we value most.

Personal well-being gifts

Struggling to find a gift for a friend or family member? Maybe it’s because what they actually need is a bit of time for themselves and self-care, instead of an expensive gift.

There’s your thoughtful gift idea! Build them their very own pamper kit, with candles, an eye-mask and a wash bag filled with treats, or even give them an arts and crafts kit, to take their mind off the everyday and help them relax and recharge.

Quirky gifts

This is where the fun really starts! If you’re on a mission to find gifts that they’ll remember, thinking outside the box is a good place to start.

There’s plenty of weird and wonderful gifts out there - the hard part, though, is finding something suited to the recipient. Think about any hobbies or interests of theirs, and if there’s a way you can turn these into a quirky gift. For example, if you know they like plants, get them a build your own cress garden set or owl plant pot, rather than just a basic planter.
