Hold your own Easter Olympics!

It feels like the warmer weather and lighter days are finally here as Easter approaches! You might be dreading the inevitable chocolate binge, but there is a way to keep your kids active (and creative) over the bank holiday weekend: embrace the season by hosting your own mini Easter Olympics!

Here are 8 Easter-themed events for the perfect day of fun.

1. Egg tapping

The Easter equivalent of conkers! Hard boil an egg, decorate it as beautifully as you can, and then tap it against someone else's egg. The aim is to break other people's eggs without cracking yours. Make sure you tap the pointy ends together, and don't resort to historical cheating techniques, like using eggs made of concrete and marble!

2. Easter piñata

Nothing says Easter like sweets, but they're always that bit sweeter when you've had to work for them! You can buy a ready-made piñata or make one yourself out of cardboard and tissue paper: just don't forget to fill it with tasty treats. Hang it up, blindfold the kids and let the fun begin!

3. Easter egg hunt

The Easter egg hunt is a classic tradition - but why not mix it up a bit and challenge them to find the Easter bunny? Start with hiding eggs in your garden, and at the very end of the trail place their very own bunny toy (somewhere it won't get muddy!) for the ultimate Easter treat.

4. Egg and spoon race

Another classic! All you need for an egg and spoon race is - surprisingly - eggs and spoons. This time your eggs can be hard-boiled, or raw if you want to make things a little bit more tricky. You can't touch the eggs with your hands and the first one over the line (with their egg in one piece) wins!

5. Tin can alley game

A game that appeals to all ages, all you need for this one is a stack of colourful tins and a few beanbags. To give it an Easter twist, decorate the cans with bunny ears or let your little ones create their own. It’s simple, nostalgic, and guaranteed to spark some family competition.

6. Hopping race

You've heard of a sack race - well, just add a pair of bunny ears and you have an Easter hopping race. Get your hands on some child-friendly sacks and sew white pompoms on the back for rabbit tails. Give each entrant a pair of bunny ears, blow the starting whistle and watch the winner hop to glory!

7. Pin the tail on the bunny

An Easter twist on a party favourite, you can make your own 'Pin the Tail' very easily at home. Simply print off a picture of a rabbit (or draw one yourself if you back your artistic skills). Then cut out paper tails or get hold of some fluffy pompoms, and add double-sided tape to the back of them. Blindfold the children, spin them around and see how close they can get to sticking the tail in the right place!

8. Create your own game

Where creativity meets activity! Start the timer and give them 10 minutes to come up with their very own game - whether it’s hopscotch, four square or something more innovative! If they’re a bit young for that, a simple drawing competition with these multi-coloured chalk eggs is a great way to add some excitement to the day.
