Upcycling with our wrapping paper

Here at Rex London we like the idea of being design conscious and bold.

Take, for example, our wrapping paper. I mean why use these gorgeous patterned sheets just for wrapping gifts?

You can do so much more with them – so we’ve taken the liberty of showing you how to upcycle an old tired cabinet, using our wrap to bring a new lease of life to your home.

The practical ‘but boring’ bookcase

We all know that it's what's on the bookshelf that really counts, but adding that extra personal touch to your bookcase can make all the difference.

Take for example our useful shelving unit – it’s handy, great to store all of your treasured possessions and trinkets on, but its missing a certain je ne sais quoi.

Take your time to really think about the colours you would like to feature,

To get you started on sprucing up your shelving unit you will need :

craft materials, wrapping paper, flamingo, florals

-Cutting board

-Spray adhesive

-Metal ruler

-Pencil Scissors / Stanley knife or a craft knife

-Measuring tape

-Clear Lacquer (optional)

- Wrapping Paper

1. If you happen to have removable shelves set them aside. Measure the width and height of the back wall of the bookcase. If there are permanent shelves in the bookcase, measure each section of the back wall individually.

2. Cut wrap to the exact size you’ll need to cover the back wall of the bookcase. If you have permanent shelves, cut the pieces of wrap into sections to fit between the shelves. Lay the wrapping paper pieces against the back wall of the bookcase to ensure they fit. Trim if necessary.

3. Spray the back wall of the bookcase with a high tack spray adhesive, which you can purchase at most DIY or art shops. If working in sections between the shelves, finish applying the paper to one section before spraying another.

4 . Match the upper corners of the paper to the upper corners of the bookcase wall and press it on lightly.

5. Smooth the wrapping paper with a plastic wall paper scraper or very clean hands. Start in the centre, working your way towards the edges to eliminate air bubbles and creases.Remember to work bubbles out quickly before the adhesive sets.

If you would like the wrap to stay on over time, we would recommend that you go over it with a clear lacquer.

Et voila, there you have it -
