Super simple Easter egg decorating

Is there anything more delicious than munching on those thin crispy chocolate shards you get from an Easter egg? In this super simple Easter activity you might be swayed into a slightly more deluxe sprinkle encrusted version! I adore Easter, but the only thing I always find a bit disappointing is how quickly those yummy eggs are gobbled up. Decorating these plain chocolate eggs with the whole family is a great way to extend the festivities.

You could set up an Easter egg hunt first, and then once the eggs are all found you can start to decorate!

These particular eggs are simply drizzled with white chocolate and then scattered with sprinkles, but you could use whatever you have to hand; chopped nuts, dried fruit, glacé icing or you could get adventurous with the chocolate you use to spatter them with. Ruby chocolate has a beautiful pink hue, or you could try caramel infused versions for coffee-coloured stripes and splodges.

You will need

• Plain, hollow chocolate eggs
• Egg cups to stand the eggs in - the Cookie the Cat and Miko the Panda egg cups look like you’re creating a hat or hair when decorating the eggs!
• White chocolate - I used 50g but it depends how indulgent you want to be
• Sprinkles

Method

Break up some white chocolate and place in a microwaveable bowl. Melt it in the microwave in 20 second bursts, stirring each time. Be careful not to let it overheat as white chocolate can overcook very quickly. Then drizzle or dip to your heart’s content! 

To make a fun confetti ‘hat’ dip the smaller end of the egg into the dish of melted chocolate then either dip it into the sprinkles, or place some on top. Alternatively, make like a chocolatier and artfully drizzle those eggs with the melted chocolate, carefully scattering on the sprinkles to finish.

We really enjoyed decorating the eggs as a family and then having a good look at all the eggs at the end in all their sugar-encrusted glory!

Once the chocolate has set, the sprinkles add a nostalgic, ‘jazzies’ style crunch which is just delicious!
