Six insta-worthy workspaces
Whether it’s working from home, organising your life or encouraging the kids to do their homework, a beautiful, organised desk can help you get more done. If you’re looking for ideas and inspiration to style your workspace, check out these Instagrammers. Be warned – you’ll want it all!
@aliceinscandiland
For a modern twist on mid-century shelving, recreate this look by Alice Collyer of @aliceinscandiland. Alice has cleverly upstyled plain, twin-slot shelving in her daughter Nancy’s room by spray-painting the brackets gold and using birch-faced ply for the shelves.
A deeper bottom shelf creates the desk space, while the shelving above houses prints, plants and a cute rabbit night light. Baskets under the desk are used to store away Nancy’s odds and ends. It’s the perfect art corner for a budding creative!
@julietslibrary
Pinned to her giant corkboard are the things that make Juliet Trickey of Juliet’s Library smile – motivational quotes, beautiful fabrics and special photos. This lovely backdrop is not only a great way of organising bits and bobs, it also provides instant inspiration for those times when writers’ block sets in.
Juliet proves that neat and tidy doesn’t have to mean stark and sparse. From the pretty mug holding her pens and pencils, to the silver-framed wedding photo, the scented candle, and the delicate vase of flowers, Juliet’s desk is the epitome of well-ordered prettiness.
@chloeuberkid
Chloe Thurston of @chloeuberkid has created the perfect organised workspace in the heart of her home. Buff magazine files, birch-ply craft drawers and woven baskets keep her space super tidy and elegantly stylish. Neutral tones lend warmth to the sleek, white lines of her desk and shelving combo.
An integrated magazine rack displays Chloe’s current inspirational reads. While further accessories – the macrame wall hanging, the ceramics, and the Tibetan sheepskin rug draped over the back of her chair – provide extra luxe factor.
@shnordic
Scandi maximalism is the signature style of Susanna Hawkins, AKA @shnordic. And it’s reflected in her workspace, which mixes the clean lines of Scandi interior design with big flowers, prints and patterns. Susanna has softened her stripped floorboards and mid-century furniture with a cosy rug underfoot and a snuggly cardigan over the back of her chair.
Notes, photos and scissors are pinned to the cork board above her desk, while the gallery wall can be changed up to reflect the season and give the space a fresh look. We also love the orientation of her desk, with natural light flooding the space from the side window.
@lauracoxhome
This pegboard in Laura Cox’s workspace (@lauracoxhome) makes clever use of limited space – check out the integrated mini shelf, pen pot and cute hooks. Laura’s desk area is a pleasing combination of industrial – metal filing cabinet, desk lamp and wire mesh baskets, and homely – plants, cushions and natural wood.
The wooden desk used to be her granny’s sewing table and it works perfectly with Laura’s Ercol chair. She has cleverly used all the wall space under the sloping roof for shelves, keeping them tidy with magazine files and pretty, patterned boxes.
@talking_terrace
Tucked into a corner of her house, Laura Cowell from @talking_terrace has created this cozy workspace. Slotted into the alcove are a roomy table and cube shelves filled with books, plants and favourite ceramics.
Her style is maximalist and eclectic. An upcycled wooden crate has been painted steely grey and serves as a shelf. Wire mesh in-trays keep papers tidy and a moulded dining chair is drawn up to finish off the workspace. Lush houseplants, statement wallpaper and monochrome prints give the space personality and warmth.
We hope we’ve given you plenty of ideas and inspiration to style up your own workspace. We’d love to see the results. Share your photos with us via our Facebook page or by tagging @rexlondonuk on Instagram.
